Depression

Depression often looks like sadness, low mood, thoughts of death or dying, not finding joy in things that used to make us happy, feeling little hope for the future, physical symptoms (fatigue, restlessness, changes in appetite, chronic pain), not feeling good enough and/or inability to care for ourselves. This list is of course not exhaustive, depression manifests differently in every person.

Depression is both endogenous (caused by genetic factors) and exogenous (caused by external factors) in nature. Some individuals are born with a predisposition to Depression or depressive symptoms. Others experience depression or depressive symptoms due to unfortunate circumstances in life (life changes, conflict, grief and/or loss, challenging relationships, breakups, family problems, to name a few). Regardless, depression can totally put our life on hold. This often invisible illness can leave us feeling lonely and helpless.

I want you to know that you are not alone. You will not be stuck in this rut forever. The silver lining is depression can teach us a lot about ourselves- our needs, health, relationships, boundaries, to name a few. To treat depression, I use a holistic approach, connecting mind, body, and environment. I assess the root of my client’s depression or depressive symptoms, and factors that are likely perpetuating it, and develop an individualized plan to move forward. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Interventions, Solution-Focused Therapy and Mindfulness based interventions depending on the client’s needs. You can expect to be met with kindness, understanding, empathy and patience throughout the therapeutic process.
