Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition in children. Research shows that ADHD can also develop in early adulthood, even if symptoms were not present as a child. Folks with ADHD can have actual structural differences in their “working brain” - the right prefrontal cortex– which controls executive function (e.g. planning, organization, social skills, emotional regulation). ADHD brains just work differently. Believe it or not, many of these differences are, in fact, superpowers. Therefore, Therapy should be tailored to these differences.
Caroline Unruh has been treating adults and children with ADHD since 2017. She understands the emotional and practical implications of ADHD - from difficulty managing emotions, day-to-day tasks, time management, procrastination, struggling with rejection, to feeling different from one’s peers. She uses a solution focused approach, promoting skills and strategies that reduce the practical and emotional challenges of ADHD. She also uses a strength-based approach. She recognizes that individuals with ADHD are armed with amazing strengths that much of the world often doesn’t see. She focuses on harnessing these strengths meanwhile implementing new skills to “hack” the ADHD brain. Ultimately, Caroline wants current and new clients with ADHD to know that there is hope. ADHD does not have to run your life. Change may seem overwhelming, but it is indeed very possible.
